CLOUDY BUT COOL

The Farm House

The Fall Garden

The Tuesday class enjoyed painting in a wonderful garden in Hingham. It was a cloudy day which can be challenging to begin identifying values. During the critique, we all agreed every kind of weather is great to paint in.

THE BIG APPLE

No ... This isn't my work! I went to NYC over the week-end and feasted my eyes on a lot of great art. I saw the De Kooning exhibit at MOMA. I am drawn to Abstract Expression. These 2 artists: John Little and Batty Parsons were at the Spanierman Gallery.

In other news- Kelley MacDonald, painter and blogger extrordianire- is presenting a talk about daily painting and the blogging process, this Thursday at the North River Arts Society. Its a deal at $35 and will be very helpful to those who might want to blog or even those who just want to have a fun evening.

PASSING BY

Every once in a while, I slip off to the beach by myself with a good juicy book. I pass this house on my way to and fro. It always makes me feel good

THE ROWLEY GALLERY

This was the Saturday DEMONSTRATION at the Rowley Gallery.www.elizabethrowleygallery.com
20x20 acrylic
I met another blogger at the Demo and her work is beautiful. Kathleen Weber http://weberstudio.blogspot.com

I also had the privilege of meeting Carol Marine last week who told me exactly how to photograph one's paintings...in the shadow of a building, upright, no reflection of any kind including the sky. It works!

CHUMMY LITTLE GUYS

Will the REAL "Chummy Little Guys" please stand up?
You have to be a certain age to remember that line.

This is a question to you fellow painters.....I took one of these pictures in the sun, the other in the shade.....What is the best advice on that?

SURFACES

I seem to paint on 3 different painting surfaces. I use masonite for small pieces.

REFLECTIONS

The other 2 surfaces I use are raw canvas, which I tack up on my large board, gesso and paint on the rough surface and store bought pre primed and stretched canvas which I generally paint over old paintings time and time again. When I have all 3 going on the same day...It feels wonderful

STYLE

Isn't it weird when your painting looks like someone else painted it? I guess it is part of the deal ....letting yourself keep evolving and flowing along authentically, ready or not.

INVITATION

Vineyard Haven is packed with boats. It was a challenge to simplify. It is time for me to say good bye to this incredibly beautiful island. I would like to come back to this house the last week in July 2012 with fellow painters. Who wants to come ?????

Hoerle
Goodman

My painting today is inspired by two artist's work I have seen on the Vineyard. Their work to me is kind of similar: abstract, sophisticated expressionist. The colors are great, brushstroke strong and interesting. Less is more.
Jeff Hoerle's work is at the Field Gallery in West Tisbury and Steve P Goodman's work www.spgoodman.com is in the Burlington VT area.

MORNING GLORY FARM

This farm provides the Vineyard with THE most quality organic veggies and herbs and home made breads and pies. Here is a sample of a most delicious salad topped with haricot vert and blue cheese accompanied with a fab potato salad, photographed by Annie Graham. We had this with perfectly grilled fish, finishing the meal off with strawberry, peach pie topped with ice cream. Oh ya!

GARDEN VISIT

I got to paint at Donna Watson's property yesterday. Her incredibly beautiful gardens were on the South Shore Natural Science Center Garden tour. Donna is a truly talented creative spirit. Besides being an incredible gardener, she built her own screened in porch! We can only imagine what else she can do!
