GREAT WEEK END

RED BARN 30x30 acrylic/pastel

Lots of fun this week-end. We have gorgeous weather coming up. My workshop will be in Marshfield tomorrow and the Arts Walk on Sunday.

Robin Keller

As I hang my work for Sunday...I can't help but to re paint and spiff up old paintings. This red barn being one. My sister ROBIN KELLER www.robinkeller.com will be exhibiting her work on Sunday at North Street Studio along with 8 other artists. I display Robin's version of the same red barn and her "Lavendar Field". It is such fun to be able to share the love of painting with your sisters...yes..more on more artistic sisters another day.

TUESDAYS

MARY'S BOAT 12x12

We do have a good time painting on Tuesdays. Last Tuesday during the critique I dropped one of the artist's paintings in between the dock slits!!! It was a full moon high tide and we looked in the water but had no luck finding it. I felt horrible  and at the same time it was so unusual that we all tried not to laugh or be upset. 20 minutes into the critique, the tide turned and we looked once again...lo and behold we found it hung up on some seaweed, ready to make it's big break out to sea. Ah, the beauty of acrylic..after 2 days of drying out it is now framed.

YELLOW CAN

This painting is a commission for my very dear friends from VT. We love the farm stand on Martha's Vineyard that sells pizza sauce cans filled with healthy, gorgeous zinnias.
I hope they like it. I do. It makes me feel happy remembering hot summer days and fun times spent with them.

BEGINNING

Is it a bird or a plane? No it is the beginning of a large painting..a boat. The raw canvas was gessoed and sanded and the first layers of paint put down very roughly. Now..to move forward and keep the work vibrant.......

Join us at Kennedy's Country Gardens in Marshfield MA tomorrow, Saturday Oct 8. The GIRLS JUST WANNA PAINT are having a booth at an artful event. We will be painting and displaying our work. Art and flowers, plants and crafts...a gorgeous weather day predicted

EXECUTIVE SEARCH

I painted this from some photographs. I am not sure if it is quite finished. I wanted the painting to capture the feel of the wind and the sea. Figures are challenging for me but I am pleased with the impressionistic quality of this figure.
I shot these photos from my Iphone on the Martha's Vineyard ferry. Perhaps more paintings of figures to come

CLOUDY BUT COOL

The Farm House

The Fall Garden

The Tuesday class enjoyed painting in a wonderful garden in Hingham. It was a cloudy day which can be challenging to begin identifying values. During the critique, we all agreed every kind of weather is great to paint in.

THE BIG APPLE

No ... This isn't my work! I went to NYC over the week-end and feasted my eyes on a lot of great art. I saw the De Kooning exhibit at MOMA. I am drawn to Abstract Expression. These 2 artists: John Little and Batty Parsons were at the Spanierman Gallery.

In other news- Kelley MacDonald, painter and blogger extrordianire- is presenting a talk about daily painting and the blogging process, this Thursday at the North River Arts Society. Its a deal at $35 and will be very helpful to those who might want to blog or even those who just want to have a fun evening.

PASSING BY

Every once in a while, I slip off to the beach by myself with a good juicy book. I pass this house on my way to and fro. It always makes me feel good

THE ROWLEY GALLERY

This was the Saturday DEMONSTRATION at the Rowley Gallery.www.elizabethrowleygallery.com
20x20 acrylic
I met another blogger at the Demo and her work is beautiful. Kathleen Weber http://weberstudio.blogspot.com

I also had the privilege of meeting Carol Marine last week who told me exactly how to photograph one's paintings...in the shadow of a building, upright, no reflection of any kind including the sky. It works!

CHUMMY LITTLE GUYS

Will the REAL "Chummy Little Guys" please stand up?
You have to be a certain age to remember that line.

This is a question to you fellow painters.....I took one of these pictures in the sun, the other in the shade.....What is the best advice on that?

SURFACES

I seem to paint on 3 different painting surfaces. I use masonite for small pieces.

REFLECTIONS
6x6 acrylic click here to purchase

The other 2 surfaces I use are raw canvas, which I tack up on my large board, gesso and paint on the rough surface and store bought pre primed and stretched canvas which I generally paint over old paintings time and time again. When I have all 3 going on the same day...It feels wonderful

Isn't it weird when your painting looks like someone else painted it? I guess it is part of the deal ....letting yourself keep evolving and flowing along authentically, ready or not.

GIRLS JUST WANNA PAINT

This month's CHALLENGE topic was KEN www.girlsjustwannapaint.blogspot.com/
Kenny happens to be one of my son, Pete's cats. Pete, a Berklee College of Music graduate and fantastic musician moved to San Francisco last year. I am the lucky recipient of 'the boys'. Kenny's official name is Kenny Burrell and his brother is Wes montgomery. If you like jazz..you will smile :)
