Pears want to be "IN' like the Tomatoes
I actually began this painting last year and set it aside unfinished. I often paint over old paintings but yesterday decided to 'Doctor' this old one up using a palette knife and changing the composition. It came alive for me. Now many other freshly harvested local vegetables and fruits are begging to be painted next! Not a problem. Palette knife has a mind of it's own.

Organic Heirlooms
Eating [and painting ] tomatoes are one of the major joys of late August. Garden tomatoes all used to be delicious but it seems unless they are 'heirloom' they taste like store bought winter tomatoes. What is up with that ? FOOD INC

Old Cape Cod
I am squeezing the last weeks of Summer out with my weekly road trips. This is beautiful Chatham. I hardly captured the really gorgeous light and sparkle this Cape town displays. Old, historical elegance. Lots of commotion over closed beaches for swimming due to the sharks in the ocean.

Next steps
Step 1: Lay in some warm washes, establish simple values, use complementary colors
Step 2: Add darks, light patterns and play with various greens
Step 3: Just keep painting, backing up and re looking, establishing light and dark patterns, re- draw shapes to make more painterly....using intuition at this point. Decide what is working and getting rid of what is not
Step 4: WORLD'S END 42x38

City Street
This is a 30x28 acrylic. I think I could have stopped a bit sooner, I had hoped to be more lose and free. I also did a still life today but you won't be seeing that one..I am a bit rusty after taking a few days off. It happens...Back to business tomorrow.I need to follow my own advice and paint like a kindergardener...Just paint with no expectations
The painting workshop on August 4-5 still has a few places left. Come and join us!

Walk This Way
I went to Martha's Vineyard last week-end. This is the beach at the very end of Chappiquiddick. I did this small work on panel and a larger version on canvas of the same scene which can be viewed above.

This painting was a happy accident for me. It was a painting over a painting, which I love to mess around with. Mess being the key word but beats perfectly controlled in my world.
