DAY 1

LISA'S INSPIRATION

I am painting over old paintings hanging around in my closet. I loved LISA DARIA KENNEDY's post yesterday. Her green vase inspired me.

The pictures of the blizzard in the Northeast  look beautiful. I hope everyone has power.

MAGICAL BAY

MAGICAL BAY

Mixed media

The community of Puerto Vallarta is diverse and rich. Art, healing spirt, whales frolicking in the 50 mile wide bay, the gongs and bells from the Cathedral every 15 minutes, the mountains and rivers, the kindness of people, the slowed down pace of living....how to put it all on a tiny canvas!

Day 29 of the LESLIE SAETA 30 Day Challenge. Thank you Leslie for giving me the incentive and inspiration to commit to my painting more seriously. What a Joy Ride this has been..... and I am just getting started.

A quicky sketch.

I am pleased to be a guest painter on TARYN DAY'S blogsite THE ART ROOM for the Jan 28 post. What a great, informative site this is!

Thank you for being so supportive for the loss of my Abbie Girl. Painters who blog are especial. Muchas gracias

This is  a segment of a larger painting 30x30. I am kind of cheating today on my 30/30 small pieces as I am taking the time today to work on a new bigger painting.

GIRASOL #1

I had a lot of fun today mixing colors from a simple palette of:

yellow light, ochre, ultramarine blue, thalo blue, cad red light and magenta.

RIO CUALE

Part of the healing energy of Puerto Vallarta comes from the rivers that run from the mountains through the town and into the Bay of Banderas.

I also want to thank the artists in my Thursday class today for giving me a constructive critique of this. I needed help

CATHEDRAL

People call it the Cathedral but it is really a church. I don't know what the requirements are of being a Cathedral. I live a couple of blocks up from the church. The bells drive some people crazy. I love them. It makes me take a nice deep breath and appreciate the beauty all around me.

IGLESIA DE GAUDALUPE

The most important building in a city is the tallest. How does that size up modern day cities?

THE HOOD

I thank Nancy Colella for reminding me a couple of months ago to use plenty of paint. It is FUN especially if you like frosting.

WET PAINT

30 paintings in 30 days finally whooped me! Didn't plan my time well today. It got dark so I had to paint very fast, take a photo of this in the dark. Tch, tch, tch. Tomorrow is another day.

Ready for Landing

This is the view from the plane as we land in Puerto Vallarta. I couldn't decide whether to add the wing of the plane. Pretend this is a Diebenkorn sketch.

Calle Matamoros

Here I am in Mexico. I am taking on a "30 paintings in 30 days" Challenge put out there by Leslie Saeta. It is suggested that we have a theme. I have decided to document my days in Mexico, unless I feel like doing something else. Just paint...that is the kickstart I need now.

Dr Einstein

I haven't posted much lately. I am on the road for the Winter. Dr. Einstein is the artist of choice for now. A San Francisco based artist. I will post from Mexico when I am all set up next week. Wishing all very HAPPY NEW YEAR

The Home Stretch

I have become very attached to this comfy couch. I will miss it when I head to the West Coast next week. I was channeling Matisse for this painting

POEMS

A dark painting for the darkest time of the year.
The christmas song from Christina Rosetti's poem runs through my head

IN THE BLEAK MID WINTER
FROSTY WIND MADE MOAN
EARTH STOOD HARD AS IRON
WATER LIKE A STONE
SNOW HAD FALLEN - SNOW ON SNOW
SNOW ON SNOW
IN THE BLEAK MID WINTER
LONG AGO

Here is a poem I wrote for the chaotic, shifting times we are in

IT IS OPEN NOW!
NO TURNING BACK
GIVING NEW BIRTH
LETTING GO OF THE PACK
TRUST
GRACE
 JOY
 LAUGH
WHO WILL FALL
WHO WILL SOAR
GUIDES SMILE ............................AS THEY GENTLY AND FIRMLY NUDGE US THROUGH THE DOOR

 Girls Just wanna Paint

The GJWP challenge was to paint like Van Gogh. I struggled with this neat idea and some of the paintings are very, very good. Mine seems to look like a Railsback.

  FIELD 6x6

Besides being a blocked painter recently, enjoying Thanksgiving with friends and my God daughter, artist, Lillian Graham and having a wonderful Birthday.... I went to NYC with fellow blogger Pam Copeman and had the pleasure of seeing MATISSE at the Metropolitan Museum. I also got to meet my nephew's pup

Isn't the definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting a different result? I always have fresh roses on my kitchen table and I just can't resist painting them.

Oh Balls!

I painted this as a warm up in my Painting class. I could not figure out why the acrylic paints would not mix easily. I figured they must have been frozen one too many a time. I muscled on through hammering the paint onto the board. When my brushes wouldn't wash out and I had cobalt blue all over my hands, I realized I was mixing oil and water. Details...
